I have no personal hatred
towards facebook(f.b) but it being a virtual world the influence it has spread
on day to day life really surprises me. Every person now is defined depending
upon his profile in f.b i.e. number of friends (also how many pretty gals are
there in it), pics, post … nobody even cares how he is in practical life (Of
course girls update’s are given special attention here & watched in
practical life also). Let me tell some instances which I feel are effect of
f.b.
Starting with my friend, he loved a gal
in his college. She was a girl from a typical middle class family (also 1 year
senior), like all others she had f.b profile & my friend with all courage
put her friendship request, she accepted it in few minutes. Now this guy got so
excited, as if she had accepted his love proposal only! He rejoiced it &
like films this happiness did not last long. One dull evening (exactly 7days
later) she un-friend him (now as you except) he made a fuss (how?) as if he had
break-up with his love with whom he was in relationship for years. Surprisingly
he cursed himself & not her!! (For me the feeling a girl injects into a boy
is still a mystery).
I think I can’t blame my
friend nor his ‘love’ but the belief he had in f.b as a true medium. He could
have tried other means if this way of communication failed, but did not because
he took the result as final.
Above one was between girl & boy,
the next one is the mad craze by my cousin’s (mostly women) about social
networking games (all types of ville). They spend most of the day in this
ville’s, I think they feel proud about building city’s, farmland… to different
levels & consider them as a important achievement in their general life span
of 65years (unless they have heart attack if virtual earthquake comes & all
their virtual city collapses like pack of cards). Some time I think why don’t
they create a game where the entire problem’s faced by our country is dumped
in, so that different idea’s come in from these couch potato’s (I know the
idea’s is a sure flop but worth a try).
So last one I want to say is about
the freedom of speech we get in f.b. Even though the freedom of expression is
good but it’s limited only to f.b, one of my lecture is active in f.b &
whole students of my class are his friend’s (obviously). Now every comment he
gives (irrespective of it’s relevance to students or not), it will have likes
of all student’s. Sometimes when student ask or comment, if relevant or not our
Sir will surely type back (but replay varies from relevant question to the one
not) & when it comes to asking doubt’s majority prefer asking their friend’s
instead of Sir! This is what happens in f.b, one feels free & safe in
virtual atmosphere but not the same in life.
These are few instances (of many)
that catch my attention. All I want to say is being a part of virtual
atmosphere do not give yourself to it. Many emotions are expressed in walls of
f.b but when we read it, its just monotonous black word dull & dry (we may
comment or like it), but we miss the expression & feeling’s the person will
express if the same is told by him when we meet him. At last we all are human’s
& not machine’s for which code’s are given. As writer of an article about
f.b rightly placed that it is nothing but a free advertising medium of oneself.
Still I am in f.b because I get best
snaps of pretty gals of my college (legally!) which otherwise was a difficult
task. Thanks to Mark Zukerberg.
